Getting started with your yoni egg

Everything for your first few weeks in one place. Go slowly. There is no right pace and nothing to get perfect.

Meet your egg

A yoni egg is a smooth, egg shaped crystal used for pelvic floor practice. The tradition comes from Taoist teachings, and people have practised with eggs like this for a very long time to feel more aware of their bodies and more connected to themselves. Every Love Stone Rituals egg is carved from genuine, GIA batch-certified crystal, with no dyes, coatings or synthetic materials.

Pause your practice if…

You are on your period, pregnant, or have recently given birth. If you have pelvic pain or any pelvic health concerns, chat to a pelvic floor physiotherapist before you start. This guide is general wellbeing information, not medical advice.

Choosing your size

Start with the large egg. It is easier to hold while you get used to the feeling. Move down to medium and then small over several months of regular practice. If you know your pelvic floor tends to be tight (hypertonic), start with a smaller egg.

Large

50 x 35mm

Best for beginners.

Medium

45 x 30mm

For when the large feels easy and comfortable.

Small

35 x 25mm

Advanced practice, or if you have a hypertonic pelvic floor.

Sizes shown for Nephrite Jade.

Your first session

Seven gentle steps

  1. Cleanse your egg

Wash with warm water and a mild, unscented soap. Rinse well and dry completely. If you like, you can also cleanse it energetically by leaving it in moonlight overnight or using a sage smoke cleanse.

  2. Set an intention

Hold the egg in both hands and take a few slow breaths. Pick a word or a feeling, like strength, calm or healing. There is no wrong answer.

  3. Get comfortable

Lie down with your knees bent, or stand with soft knees. Give your body a moment to settle.

  4. Insert the egg

A little natural lubricant helps. Insert the large end first, string side down, while keeping your pelvic muscles relaxed. No rushing.

  5. Wear it, then breathe

For your first few sessions, simply wearing the egg for 10 to 20 minutes is plenty. Try the first exercise below while you wear it.

  6. Remove it with care

Relax completely and bear down gently, like you would for a bowel movement. You can gently draw the string. The egg will release on its own. Never force it.

  7. Clean up

Wash with warm water and mild soap after every session. Rinse well, dry completely and store in the velvet pouch, out of direct sunlight.

Egg exercises

Eight exercises, in order

Spend a week or two on the first few before you add the next. Every squeeze needs a full release afterwards. The letting go matters just as much as the lift.

Breathing guide
In for 4, out for 6

Follow the circle: it grows as you breathe in and softens as you breathe out. Slow, steady breaths help your pelvic floor soften.

How to squeezeImagine you are stopping a wee mid-flow, then drawing that feeling up and in around the egg. Aim for a gentle lift, not a clench.
Keep it softBreathe out as you squeeze and in as you let go. Keep your thighs, bum and belly relaxed. If anything hurts, stop and rest.

Breathe and soften

Start here2 min

Lie on your back with your knees bent and a hand on your belly. Breathe in through your nose and feel your belly rise and your pelvic floor gently soften, like a flower opening. Breathe out slowly.

Try8 to 10 slow breaths

If you only do one exercise in week one, make it this one. Learning to release comes before learning to squeeze.

Squeeze and let go

Foundations3 min

Breathe in and soften. As you breathe out, gently squeeze and lift around the egg. Hold for 3 seconds while you breathe normally, then let go completely for about 5 seconds.

Try8 reps, 3 second hold

If your thighs or bum are tightening, ease off. Smaller and softer is better.

The Lift

Foundations4 min

Picture a lift in a building. Squeeze a little for the first floor, a bit more for the second, a bit more for the third. Hold there, then let go one floor at a time all the way down.

Try5 rounds, rest between each

The slow trip down is the tricky part, and the most useful.

Quick pulses

Building2 min

Squeeze and release quickly, like a light flutter, about one beat per second. Then rest with a deep breath.

Try10 pulses, rest 10 seconds, repeat twice

Let go fully between each pulse. If things start to feel buzzy or tired, stop and rest.

Bridge and squeeze

Building4 min

Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat. Breathe out, squeeze, and lift your hips. Breathe in, lower down and let go.

Try8 reps, moving with your breath

Keep your ribs soft and avoid arching your lower back.

Mini squats

Building4 min

Stand with your feet hip width apart and knees soft. Breathe out as you bend into a small squat and squeeze. Breathe in as you stand and let go.

Try10 reps

Keep it small and slow. Holding the back of a chair is perfectly fine.

Deep squat release

Building3 min

Stand with your feet wider than your hips and toes turned out. Lower into a deep squat (put a rolled towel under your heels if they lift) with your hands together at your chest. Breathe slowly and let your pelvic floor soften with each out breath.

Try5 slow breaths, then stand up

A lovely way to finish a session. It is also fine to do this one without the egg in.

Longer holds

Steady5 min

Once the earlier exercises feel easy, build your holds. Squeeze gently and hold for 5 seconds, working up towards 10, breathing normally the whole time. Rest for as long as you held.

Try6 reps, 5 second hold working toward 10

Quality beats length. A relaxed 5 second hold is better than a tense 10.

Your first month

A simple 4 week plan

Tick off each session as you go. Ticks reset if you leave the page, so screenshot it if you like.

Week 1

10 to 15 minutes. Breathe and soften, Squeeze and let go.

Week 2

15 to 20 minutes. Add The Lift.

Week 3

About 20 minutes. Add Quick pulses and Bridge and squeeze.

Week 4

About 20 minutes. Add Mini squats, Deep squat release and Longer holds.

After week 4, keep going two to three times a week. Consistency matters more than duration. When the large egg feels easy and comfortable, you can think about moving down a size.

Looking after your egg

Care and cleansing

After every sessionWarm water and a gentle soap. Rinse well, dry completely, then store it in the velvet pouch away from direct sunlight.
Energetic cleansingLeave your egg in a bowl of sea salt overnight, or in the moonlight. Completely optional.
Please avoidBoiling water and chemical cleaners. Both can cause cracking.
Common questions

Good to know

How often should I practise?

Start with two to three sessions a week, 15 to 20 minutes each. Think of it like any other kind of body training. Consistency matters more than length, especially at the beginning.

Can I sleep with my yoni egg?

We don't recommend it for beginners. Use your egg while you are awake and paying attention, so you can notice how your body feels throughout.

What if the egg feels stuck?

The vaginal canal is a closed passage, so the egg can't go anywhere past the cervix. Relax completely, take slow deep breaths, squat low and gently bear down. The egg will slide out. While you are learning, an egg that is drilled with a string is the best choice.

Is a yoni egg hygienic?

Nephrite jade is dense and non-porous, which makes it easy to keep clean. Wash it thoroughly before and after every session and you are all set.

When should I not use my egg?

Pause during your period, during pregnancy and after giving birth. If you have any pelvic health concerns, speak with a pelvic floor physiotherapist before you begin.

Your practice. Your pace. Your ritual.
